As a consumer, you trust that the products and services you purchase are safe and reliable. However, every year companies find themselves facing defective product lawsuits due to injuries consumers suffer as a result of “products-gone-bad.”
Defective product cases cover a wide range of scenarios and can look different from one case to the next. Check out a few of the most recent defective product cases making news.
Hip Implant Recalls
Both DePuy Orthopaedics, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, and Stryker Medical have issued safety warnings or worldwide recalls of several hip implants. These include:
- Stryker LFIT Anatomic Femoral Head
- Stryker Accolade TMAF Plus Hip Stem
- Stryker Rejuvenate and ABG II femoral heads
- DePuy ASR XL Acetabular System
- DePuy ASR Hip Resurfacing System
Some patients who have received these hip implants have experienced everything from swelling, physical pain, mobility issues, dislocation of the implant, and in some cases, surgery to replace the defective implant.
Proton Pump Inhibitor Dangers
Proton Pump Inhibitors, available both over-the-counter and by prescription, are some of the most commonly used drugs worldwide. However, these acid-blocking medicines have been linked to kidney failure, chronic kidney disease, and other serious health conditions.
Patients who have suffered health complications as a result of taking proton pump inhibitors complain that the dangers of usage were not disclosed to them. It’s also important to note that prolonged use could be deadly in some cases.
Transvaginal Mesh
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), transvaginal/pelvic mesh or sling devices may put women at greater risk for complications in comparison to other surgical solutions.
This popular treatment for both urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse has invoked around 3,000 complaints from individuals who’ve had the procedure and then suffered vaginal tissue erosion, chronic vaginal discharge, painful intercourse, and even recurrence of pelvic organ prolapse or urinary incontinence.
Several companies that provide this procedure are currently under investigation. If they’re held liable, individuals affected may be entitled to compensation.
